The F/ratio is what decides how much light gets onto the film.
If you open the F/Ratio wide open, shown by the smallest number, you will get lots of stars in your photo. If you close the F/ratio right up, shown by the biggest number, you won't get many stars in your photo! For usual astrophotos I have the F/ratio set to anywhere between F/4 to F/8.
